Artist & Co-founder of Fort Makers
Before founding Fort Makers, Noah mentored under furniture designers Patrick Townsend, Paul Loebach and Uhuru Design. Noah grew up surrounded by nature in a small mountain community called Sunshine Canyon near Boulder Colorado. Many of this community’s residents are artists, including Noah’s parents, and from a young age he was encouraged to make things.

Describe Your Artistic Practice
I find that most of my creative direction is a reaction or feeling that comes from being in a physical space. I love to be outside and explore nature, and I also love to come home to a space that is comfortable. I want a window to see out and look at the nature, no matter where, and I want the things inside to serve a purpose and to feel that they have quality. From here most things can take shape by experimenting and playing with them, arranging and rearranging them. Each formation has a different feeling, and I enjoy interacting with things that encourage play. Playfulness is at the heart of my creative process.
How Noah Gets To Work
I like to pedal my way around New York City. In particular, I love seeing all the streets in my neighborhood, Bed-Stuy, and looking at all the variations of brownstones and town homes. It's a really beautiful neighborhood, and the people who live here are friendly and give a special character to this pocket of the city. I ride somewhat slowly, and when I see a nice looking rose bush I like to allow myself a moment to stop. I have a few favorite coffee spots on my way to the studio. I don't get coffee out everyday but I do fill my punchcards eventually. My bike is mint green, a color that I chose while the frame was being custom made for me by some friends who build bikes. Why mint green? Hmmm...I can't say for sure but I do know that I'm happy to see it every time. I like my bike, and knowing that it will get me where I need to go, for free, without emissions, and at a speed that gives me a chance to absorb the world around me.
